Dragons Head

The Dragon's Head - the name itself almost inspires one to climb it. At 10,830+'? Dragon's Head would be the 4th highest peak on our entire List. It is a great hike up Vivian Creek trail - 6,000' gain and 12 miles, all but 2 on trail. The knife-edge ridge of the Dragon's Head is spectacular and not for the faint-of-heart. Upon attaining the top of his head, the views are also great - north to San Gorgonio, east to Bighorn and Tosh's Tarn, west all the way to Mt Baldy and south to the Yucaipa Ridge, etc.

Diane Dunbar did an excellent job of leading this peak today, especially in navigating back to the Vivian Creek Trail cross-country from Dragon's Head. Entries'in the summit register go back over 15 years and are a who's who of the Hundred Peaks Section.

A long day, with 4 hours of driving and 8 hours of hiking brought us back to the cars after dark. An easier way to do Dragon's Head is to start from the east from Fish Creek trailhead. This cuts over 2,000' gain from the trip.

I heartily recommend this peak for addition to the Hundred Peaks List. It would give the List even more class and diversity.
