Outreach Volunteers

Do you enjoy meeting new people? Would you like to spread the word about environmental issues? Help us get out the Sierra Club message around town. We are looking for volunteers to staff our tables at environmental fairs, farmers markets, community events, colleges and schools, etc. Contact Jennifer Robinson, Conservation Coordinator at (213) 387-4287 X204.

Chapter Office Volunteer

Activities

Want to volunteer in a fun work atmosphere? Do you enjoy meeting new people? If you're looking to combine your light office skills with helping the environment, this is the volunteer opportunity for you.

  • Reception area coverage
  • Answer phones and handle inquiries about membership and Chapter activities
  • Assist Office Manager with general office duties (i.e., mailings, photocopying, filing, typing)

Skills

  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with others
  • Basic computer skills a plus, but not necessary
  • Ability to perform general office duties

Time Commitment

  • Four  hours per week for four months; training provided

Conservation Volunteer Opportunities

GIS Committee If you love maps, help us make them! The Geographic Information Systems Committee provides mapping services for our conservation activists. Previous GIS experience is desired, but you can also learn on the job if you are good with computers. Contact Lore Pekrul, GIS Committee Chair.

Global Warming/Energy Committee You’re invited to help our Global Warming and Energy Committee's effort to build up Green Power in Los Angeles. All you have to do: knock on the door or pick up your phone, and ask your friends, neighbors or family members if they would like to join you in signing up for the LA Department of Water and Power's Green Power program. Green Building Committee The Chapter Conservation Committee is forming a Green Building Committee to promote environmentally conscious building design in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. It will promote the use of active and passive solar design, water efficiency, public transportation-friendly siting, materials reuse, energy efficiency, and other building practices which will benefit the environment. If you have expertise or interest in this area, please contact Lore Pekrul, Green Building Committee Chair.

Legal Eagles The Conservation Legal Committee, which advises the Conservation Committee on the Chapter's environmental lawsuits and other legal matters, seeks new committee members who are attorneys or otherwise possess legal expertise. Web Editors, Designers, Developers Needed

The Electronic Communications Committee is responsible for the Angeles Chapter's http://angeles.sierraclub.org web site. We are looking for volunteers to work alongside our current dedicated team of volunteers, designing new features, developing additional applications, and maintaining content, helping the site grow into a complex, useful, educational tool for all visitors!

A new Press section and other new features are planned to launch over the coming months. If you have web editorial, design, or development skills, please plan to join us with your thoughts on how to extend the range and scope of angeles.sierraclub.org. Please contact the Angeles Webmaster.
