Southern Sierran
For the Love of Water - Join the March for Water March 22nd

By Jennifer Robinson
Conservation Coordinator

On March 22nd, the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter will celebrate World Water Day with a March for Water and Water Festival in Los Angeles. This day-long event will focus on raising awareness of the water issues in Southern California.

This is very important especially at this time when Californians are facing a 3-year drought and Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa is proposing the approval of various conservation measures including rationing and increased rates for all Angelinos.

Walk with us to highlight the importance of water in our local environment, our lives and the planet. The 3-mile march will begin at the Los Angeles State Historic Park and conclude with a Water Festival in Rio de Los Angeles State Park. The Water Festival will feature non-profit organizations, crafts, food booths and music. Pre-march festivities include art work and banner-making to show the community's love of water.

The Sierra Club Angeles Chapter is co-sponsoring the event in conjunction with several local environmental organizations including Urban Semillas, Green LA, Food and Water Watch, Arroyo Seco Foundation, Environmental Justice Coalition for Water and the Annenberg Foundation.

Opening ceremonies will start at 9:00am at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, 1245 N Spring St., Los Angeles. The march will leave from this location at 10:00am. Marchers will arrive at Rio de Los Angeles State Park, 1900 San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, where the formal kickoff of the Water Fest activities will begin at noon. To sign up to participate or for more information, visit the website: www.marchforwater.com.

To volunteer for the event, please contact Jennifer Robinson at (213)387-4287 x204 or jennifer.robinson@sierraclub.org.
