OCT 31 SAT 10 AM LITTLE HIKERS AT IRVINE PARK
O:[OCSS, OCG] A slow paced, 1 mi walk along the edge of Irvine Park, then optional excursions to the nature center, the zoo, the train, within the park. Supervised children welcome. Meet 9:30am North Orange County rideshare pt or 10am Irvine Park miniature railroad. Bring water, sturdy shoes, snack/lunch, $5 parking fee, money for excursions. NOV 1 SUN 4:00 PM LITTLE HIKERS LA NOCHE DE LOS MUERTOS CAMPFIRE & NIGHTWALK
O: [OCSS, OCG]: We'll look for owls, ghosts and other night-time creatures as we creep along the darkening trails of the Santa Ana Nature Reserve. After, we can tell folk tales and ghost stories around the campfire and enjoy pan de muerto provided by the leader. Supervised children welcome. Dress warmly, bring a flashlight and meet at 4:00pm at the new nature center at 600 E. Memory Lane. Rain cancels. Leader: Julie Garner Asst: Pete Height.
DEC 5 SAT 8:30 AM LITTLE HIKERS IN THE MOUNTAINS
O:[OCSS, OCG]: A wintertime 1-2 mi, 400' gain walk in Icehouse Canyon, then an optional stop at Harwood Lodge for Sierra Club members and guests (see Harwood information in the Schedule) to enjoy the festive decorations and for hot chocolate provided by the leader. Supervised children and adults welcome. Meet 8:30am North Orange County rideshare pt or 9:15am Mt. Baldy rideshare pt. Wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes; bring water and lunch. We will make a stop near Baldy Village to see a reconstructed Tongva shelter and to buy an Adventure Pass (USFS parking Pass.) Heavy snow within 2 days or rain cancels. DEC 12 SAT 10 AM RILEY WILDERNESS PARK, "MIKE'S HIKE" & LITTLE HIKERS
O: [Sierra Sage, Easy Hikers]: Moderately paced 3 mi rt, 200' gain. Children 5 yrs and up with parent are welcome. Meet 10 am at parking lot in the Park at East end of Oso Parkway. Bring water, munchies, sturdy shoes. $3 pkg fee. Rain/recent rain cancels. Ldr: Mike Sappingfield. Assts: Paul Carlton, Mike Metcalf
JAN 17 SUN LITTLE HIKERS IN SILVERADO CANYON
O: [OCSS, OCG] We'll amble on the road along the creek looking for early bloomers, newts and other critters. Approximately 3-4 miles RT, less than 500' gain, at a pace to be able to "stop and smell the flowers". Supervised children and adults welcome. Meet 9:00am North Orange County rideshare pt or 9:45am at the Maple Springs parking area (at the end of the road in Silverado Cyn, before the gate). Adventure Pass required to park. Wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes; bring water and snack/lunch. Rain cancels. Ldr: Julie Garner, Asst: Jay Matchett.
