Angeles Chapter Outings Policies

Activities and Outings Skill Level Rating
The Chapter Safety Committee has established ratings for all Chapter sponsored outings to differentiate the levels of skill required of participants and the event leaders. This rating does not relate to outing strenuousness. The outings leaders are the sole judge of the qualifications of participants, and they are required to screen participants to manage the safety of the entire group. Our Ratings page offers definitions of these ratings.

Ride Sharing
We encourage outings participants to make their own ridesharing arrangements, but we cannot take an active role in making these arrangments. Our Ride Sharing page explains this in further detail, and provides a list of rideshare meeting places.

Trip Reservations
If reservations are required, send reservationist or leader a large, self-addressed, stamped envelope (sase) with name, address, phone, age (if under 18), recent experience related to the desired trip, and whether you want or will give a ride or are undecided. Provide the above information for each applicant. If you obtain a reservation and cannot use it, you must notify the leader directly.

Participation by Minors
Chapter policy requires that minors provide a completed Individual Liability Waiver (PDF document) and a completed Medical Treatment Authorization & Consent Form (PDF document) for use by the Trip Leader in the event of injury or illness.

Liability Waiver
All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a liability waiver. If you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to the outing, please visit the Leadership Training Committee's Forms Page.

Rules of Conduct
Our Rules of Conduct apply to all persons joining Sierra Club activities. Conduct must, at all times, be acceptable to the group itself, to the general public, and to officials with whom the group may come in contact. These rules are listed on our Rules of Conduct page.

Become a Leader
The volunteers who lead our outings are the backbone of this program. If you'd like to know more about becoming an outings leader, visit our Outings Leaders page.

MountaineeringMountaineering Restrictions
Outings requiring the use of ice axes or rope/climbing gear may be conducted under very restrictive circumstances. Such trips require special participant screening and trip plan approval, use of waivers, and Sierra Club membership for all participants. The sponsoring Groups, Sections, and Committees must first submit an appropriately revised Safety Plan to the Safety Committee Chair. Please contact the Outings Management Committee before planning any such outings.

Bus Insurance
Contact Joel Goldberg, Bus Coordinator, for information on insurance for bus trips.
