WTC Introductory Hike?Mt Wilson-Manzanita Ridge

Invigorating conditioning hike at a moderate pace. 10 mi rt, 4000' gain. Leaders will provide an overview of the Wilderness Travel Course (WTC), which begins 1/09. Subjects include safe mountain travel, map & compass and wilderness first aid. Meet 9 am at trailhead, Mira Monte Ave and Mt Wilson Trail Dr (210 Fwy Baldwin Ave exit, Baldwin N to Mira Monte, R to trailhead). This is a residential neighborhood, so be mindful of parking regulations and residents' quiet enjoyment of their neighborhood. Bring lugsoles, 3 qts water, snacks to share.

Meet new friends on a winter hike along the awesome W Fork of the San Gabriel River and learn about the recreational needs and water quality issues of the area. The hike will go into the San Gabriel Mtn Wilderness and you'll have the opportunity to take a small action to help protect the river. 5 mi rt, 500' gain. Meet 9 am Azusa rideshare pt. Bring lugsoles, sunscreen, lunch, water. Rain cancels.

Learn ways to protect the areas we hike and enjoy on this moderately paced trek on the Heaton Flats Trail above the E Fork of the San Gabriel River. This 6 mi, 2000' gain hike will offer outstanding view of Mt Baldy and the San Antonio Ridge. You will also learn what you can do to help get more of the Heaton Flats Trail area included in the Sheep Mtn Wilderness. Meet 8:30 am at the Azusa rideshare pt. Bring water, lunch, hat and extra clothing layer. Heavy rain cancels.
