Red Box to San Gabriel Pk (6161'), Mt Disappointment (5960+')
|
Rating:

Moderate 7 mi rt, 1400' gain. Mt Disappointment stands high on the crest of the front range, but not quite as high as its next door summit, San Gabriel Peak. Hence the "disappointment" when government surveyors of yore grumbled at the thought of having to continue their climb, equipment and all, to the higher summit to do their surveying. This is another look-see of these peaks but extended views of the Mt Disappointment summit, ¼ mi. The top is cluttered with installations, empty buildings dating from the 50's when an Army Nike missile station was located there. Well worth the workout. Well-mannered K-9s must be leashed at lunch. Meet 8:30 am La Cañada rideshare pt. Bring plenty of water, sunblock, hat, snack to share. Rain cancels.
