11/25/09 Caspers Park?East Flat Trail Rating:   O
6 mi rt, 600' gain. Our route leaves the Ortega Flats parking area and traverses the East Flats Trail where we find open grasslands and beautiful views. We'll ascend Quail Run to East Ridge and great views of the National Forest. We'll use Oso and Bell Cyn trails, and visit oak groves before our return to the trailhead. Meet 8:30 am at South Orange County rideshare pt with 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles. Rain cancels.

11/28/09 Long Beach El Dorado Nature Center Walk Rating:   O
Brisk to moderate paced 4 mi rt walk on flat terrain. ID numerous native birds, learn flora and fauna along the way, marvel at the creation of lakes and ecosystems in the midst of urban development. Meet 7:50 am every Sat in the parking lot at the El Dorado Library (Studebaker Rd near Spring St). Bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen. Rain cancels, drizzle goes.

7 mi, 1000' gain up from the Candy Store through chaparral and oaks, past Pigeon Springs to Four Corners and back via the ridge. Meet 8:30 am South Orange County rideshare pt with 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles. Rain cancels.

Bag a Lower Peak in the Santa Ana Mtns! Join us on a 7 mi, 2000' gain hike to this peak on the Main Divide. Meet 8 am at the corner of Blackstar and Silverade Cyn Rds off of Santiago Cyn Rd. Bring 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles, fsp. Rain cancels.

12/05/09 Little Hikers in the Mountains Rating:   O
A wintertime 1-2 mi, 400' gain walk in Icehouse Cyn, then an optional stop at Harwood Lodge for Sierra Club members and guests (see Harwood info in Schedule) to enjoy the festive decorations and for hot chocolate provided by the leader. Supervised children and adults welcome. We will make a stop near Baldy Village to see a reconstructed Tongva shelter. Meet 8:30 North Orange County rideshare pt or 9:15 am Mt Baldy rideshare pt. Wear warm clothes, sturdy shoes; bring water and lunch. Heavy snow within 2 days or rain cancels.

Pulling your hair out about what to get your loved one for Christmas? Come and see what answers REI has to offer. Experts will show us the latest in gear, clothing and other outdoor goodies. Prizes. We meet at 7:30 pm at the Irvine Ranch Water District HQ at 15601 Sand Cyn in Irvine, between the 5 and 405 Fwys. Refreshments served. Come and meet our group.
