Caspers Park?East Flat Trail

6 mi rt, 600' gain. Our route leaves the Ortega Flats parking area and traverses the East Flats Trail where we find open grasslands and beautiful views. We'll ascend Quail Run to East Ridge and great views of the National Forest. We'll use Oso and Bell Cyn trails, and visit oak groves before our return to the trailhead. Meet 8:30 am at South Orange County rideshare pt with 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles. Rain cancels.

San Juan Hot Springs to Lucas Cyn

We will climb steeply 1000' on the Sitton Peak Trail from the Hot Springs area in Caspers Wilderness Park, and then descend 500' on the Lucas Cyn trail for lunch in a scenic grove in Lucas Cyn. Return same route. Meet 8 am South Orange County rideshare pt. Bring 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles. Rain cancels.

3 mi rt, 600' gain. Bring your friendly dogs and little hikers and enjoy this ridgeline walk with panoramic views of the San Clemente back country and Dana Point on a clear day. The trail is hilly and mostly paved. Meet 3:30 pm at end of Calle Cordillera in the San Clemente Business Park (from 5 Fwy got 1 mi E on Ave Pico, turn R on Calle Amanecer. Go ¼ mi and turn R on Calle Cordillera to end). Bring water, hat, sunscreen. Rain cancels.

Newport Boat Parade, Christmas Outing
|

6 mi rt, 200' gain slower-paced hike. Join us for an evening of fun as we watch the Boat Parade and view the decorated houses on Balboa Island, followed by dinner. Meet 5:30 pm, Bell Tower Fashion Island, Macy's. Bring $ for meal after. Rain cancels.

6 mi rt, 900' gain. Our trail starts at the end of Altisima in Rancho Santa Margarita and climbs a short distance to a long ridge overlooking O'Neill Park proper. We hike along the main ridge before descending into one of the park's several oak-shaded canyons. We will make a loop around the canyon bottom and return to the ridge by another canyon. Meet 8:30 am at the end of Altisima Dr (go E on El Toro Rd to Marguerite Pkwy, turn R, then a short distance to Los Alisos, turn L. After you cross the toll road, turn L on Altisima and go to the end). Bring 2 qts water, lunch, lugsoles. Rain within 3 days cancels.
